About our Brewery

NEW MAGNOLIA BREWING IS A FAMILY-OWNED AND OPERATED BREWERY LOCATED IN THE HISTORIC HEIGHTS NEIGHBORHOOD OF HOUSTON, TX. FOUNDED IN 2018, AND BREWED INTO EXISTENCE NOVEMBER 2019.

Behind the Name: New Magnolia Brewing

For New Magnolia Brewing Co, we envisioned a brewery that pays homage to Houston’s beer history and the original Magnolia Brewery, once located on Buffalo Bayou in downtown Houston (1895 – 1935). By way of this vision, we endeavor to bring attention to the historical significance of Houston beer and the cultural impact beer had on the early days of Houston.

Be a family-friendly, all-inclusive, neighborhood craft brewery, with a focus on getting back to the quality and standards of where craft beer started. We aspire to deliver clean, balanced craft beers, that give our patrons an unparalleled beer experience.

Feather Bowling

Feather Bowling (or Trabollen in Flemish). This ancient Belgian game is available exclusively for play at the New Magnolia taproom. Players roll wooden, cheese-wheel-shaped discs (bolles) down curved lanes towards a feather. Somewhere between bocce, shuffleboard, and curling, feather bowling is the perfect game to play with a group of friends. It is the first and only lane in Houston and one of only a handful in the United States. Our lane was custom-built for the New Magnolia taproom. Easy instructions, free-to-play, captivating, strategic, and nothing like anything you have ever played before. Grab your crew and come play a round or two.

Rules

The game is played with two players or two teams. Each team gets 6 balls. Play rock, scissors, paper to see who goes first. The starting player or team rolls ALL 6 balls, aiming to land them as close to the feather as possible while maintaining a solid defense. No extra points for hitting the feather. The opposing player or team rolls ALL 6 of their balls, trying to land CLOSER to the feather than their opponents. Scoring is based on how many total balls one player / team has closer to the feather than the other. Points are not awarded for opposing team balls further out than the closest to the feather balls. The player or team closest to the feather scores for that round and gets 1 point for each ball that is closer to the feather than their opponent’s balls. The player or team that scores rolls first back in the opposite direction. Play carries on in both directions. Each game is to 10 points.
